Arch bishop Kazimba Mugalu

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda has called on the people of Lango to Unite for Development.

Rt. Rev. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu made the call in Alito, Kole District where he was presiding over a memorial service for the former Dokolo Woman MP Late Cecilia Atim Ogwal whom he described as a woman of good reputation.

“The woman we are remembering now was a woman of good reputation. She did her part as a mature politician, as a mother, as a mediator, as an advisor and as a developer.  Her legacy will be here for long.” He said.

Basing on Cecilia’s legacy, Archbishop Kazimba argued that a good name is more important than wealth, calling on the people of Lango emulate her and be united.

“Let me tell you, welfare is good, but it will never go with it. Nobody will go with money but nobody will take away that name from you. A good name will be remembered, and it will never die.” He said.

Adding that “God is calling us to be together, we are not called to fight one another. We may have different ideologies, we may have different tribes but each one of us is important, no need of fighting each other.”

He warned that people should be conscious about their names saying some people are good at spoiling other people’s reputation. “That is not good. Let me tell you, social media doesn’t forget.”

Archbishop Kazimba cited Late Cecilia Ogwal as a person who kept a good them, further explaining how she helped him to foster reconciliation among members of parliament.

Senator Margaret Jepkoech Kamar, the former Deputy Speaker of the Senate of Kenya re-ecohed Archbishop’s message about protecting the name and loving the country, saying Late Cecilia Ogwal never hated Uganda even though she was in the opposition.

“All of us have come here today because of the good name that my sister Cecilia has. May I encourage members of Parliament who are here, let’s look for encouragers to encourage us so that we can leave impact in the lives of our people.”

Similarly, Professor Celestino Obua, the Chairperson Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) who hails from the Okii-Amat Clan to which Late Cecilia was married implored the current leaders to emulate her, a person who wanted to see good in everyone.

Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal died on 18th January 2024 from a Hospital in India where she was admitted. At that time, she was the Dokolo Woman MP and also a member of the Constituent Assembly and she also served in the Pan-African Parliament.
