Uganda’s newly sworn-in Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, has pledged to pursue a results-oriented diplomatic agenda, signalling a renewed focus on using Uganda’s foreign relations to deliver tangible benefits for the country.
Ayebare, who was sworn in on Tuesday at State House Entebbe, made the commitment in a post following his appointment, saying he looks forward to embarking on “Diplomacy that delivers results for our people.”
“I thank President Yoweri Museveni for entrusting me with this important docket. I look forward to embarking on Diplomacy that delivers results for our people,” Ayebare said.
The statement captures the central expectation of his new assignment: to translate Uganda’s diplomatic engagements into concrete outcomes for its citizens, while advancing the country’s interests in a rapidly changing regional and global environment.
Ayebare brings extensive diplomatic and international affairs experience to the ministry.
Before his appointment, he served as Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, where he represented Uganda in multilateral diplomacy and engaged on issues affecting Africa, peace and security, development and international cooperation.
His diplomatic career has also included serving as Uganda’s Ambassador to the United Nations Office at Geneva and the World Trade Organization, giving him experience in multilateral negotiations and global economic diplomacy.
He has also played a role in regional and international policy discussions, particularly on African peace and security, development and Uganda’s engagement with international institutions.
His appointment therefore comes at a time when Uganda’s foreign policy faces an increasingly complex diplomatic environment, with the country balancing regional security interests, economic diplomacy, trade, investment and relations with global partners.
Ayebare’s experience in multilateral diplomacy is expected to be particularly important as Uganda seeks to strengthen its voice in international forums while attracting investment, expanding trade opportunities and promoting the country’s interests abroad.
His message of pursuing diplomacy that “delivers results” also points to a foreign policy approach that places practical outcomes at the centre of Uganda’s international engagements.
For Uganda, the appointment places the country’s foreign affairs portfolio in the hands of a diplomat with years of experience navigating international institutions and complex diplomatic negotiations.
With his background and understanding of global diplomacy, Ayebare is expected to bring both experience and strategic focus to the ministry as he begins his new assignment.
