The Ministry of water and environment through Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Department officials together with the leadership of Buikwe district handed over sites to China Railway Engineering Group Co. LTD to commence construction of the Buikwe Water Supply and sanitation system in Buikwe district.

The project is being funded by the Africa Development Bank secured by the Government of Uganda and is expected to serve a population of 129,000 in 13 parishes in Buikwe district.

Officials during meetings

The implementation of this project is expected to take a period of 12 months and the systems components include 12.7Km DN300/250/200 gravity pipeline to Buikwe tank, 10m3 Break pressure tank and 9Km ODI 160-OD63 pipelines and 545m central storage tank to Lukalu Hill.

Others are 7.3Km DN300 treated water pumping main with 0.16Km branch and a 4000m 3ld Water treatment works at Kiyindi lake shore, 0.2 Km DN400 offshore pipeline and an intake chamber and raw water pump house and 0.24 Km Div 300 raw pumping main, one public waterborne toilet block and 2 institutional VIP latrines.

Buikwe Water Supply and sanitation system is being implemented by the Ministry of water and environment through Strategic Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Project (STWSSP).
