A tragic incident occurred last night at Kireka Railway Zone, in Kira Municipality, when a man stabbed his wife to death and also exterminated his own life. According to Latif Waiswa, the zone defence secretary, locals show blood flowing out of the house at 11 pm and they decided to alert the village leadership.
Waiswa said when they arrived at the scene, they decided to break the door which was locked from inside. Upon gaining entry, Waiswa and locals saw two lifeless bodies of a male and a female. “We were later informed that this was a couple leaving together. We have established that the female was called Jessica Acen while the man was Kenneth Ogwal. We called police which took the bodies to Mulago hospital for a postmortem,” Waiswa said.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, Ogwal was aged 28 while his woman was aged 29. Owoyesigyire added that a knife which Ogwal used to stab his wife to death and afterwards cut his neck, was recovered.
“A police team secured the scene and took statements from neighbors, who revealed that the dead were a couple, suggesting a tragic outcome of domestic violence,” Owoyesigyire said. “A knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered at the scene.”
Police said investigations to establish what could have attracted the gruesome murder and suicide have commenced. However, police said the way Acen’s body was several stabbed, it shows the man had a lot of anger.
“The preliminary findings expose a grim reality: Acen Jesca bore multiple fresh wounds, particularly around her neck, while Ogwal Kenneth, presumed to be the assailant, had a cut around his neck. The crime scene paints a picture of a violent struggle, with bloodstains evident on the mattress,” Owoyesigyire said.
This is the second gruesome ending of a couple in a period of one month in Kampala. On December 27, 2023, Arnold Ssenkungu aged 24 was stabbed to death by his girlfriend Shina Atwine who also committed suicide. These were residents of Mosque zone, in Kibuli, Makindye Division, in Kampala.
Like the Bweyogerere incident that happened yesterday, Ssenkungu and Atwine tragic ending was discovered by Frank Sserunjogi and others who saw blood flowing from the house. The couple unceremonious ending emanated from acts of infidelity where Atwine accused Ssenkungu of womanizing.
