The Electoral Commission, led by Justice Byabakama Simon, has greenlit a comprehensive program for the upcoming by-election of the district woman representative to parliament in Dokolo district, along with councilors in electoral areas.

The vacancy in the Dokolo district woman representative position arose following the passing of Hon. Cecilia Atim Ogwal in January 2024.

As per the Electoral Commission’s directives, the update of the national voters’ register for the district will take place from February 12 to 15, followed by the display of the register at polling stations from February 21 to March 1.

Candidate nominations at the returning officer’s office are scheduled for March 11-12. The following day, returning officers will convene with candidates to align campaign schedules and establish liaison committees.

The campaign period will commence until March 19. During this time, training and issuance of appointment letters to polling day officials, political party representatives, and candidate agents will be carried out.

The program also outlines polling days for special interest groups. These include the male councilor for older persons in Batta and Kwera Sub County, scheduled for March 18.

Subsequently, polling day for the district woman representative, sub county councilor for Adagmon parish, woman councilor for Agoga parish, and the sub county councilor of Apenyang parish will take place on March 21.

Currently, a total of 13 women politicians have expressed their intent to vie for the prominent seat, including the daughter of the late MP, Cecilia Ogwal.
