Gen. Jeje Odongo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has urged NAM delegates to explore various parts of the country, to appreciate Uganda’s diverse flora, fauna, and warm hospitality.

Speaking at the opening of the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Kampala on Monday, Minister Odongo also emphasized the importance of addressing pressing global issues like climate change, health pandemics, financing, and debt.

He highlighted the summit’s theme, “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence,” as a call for collective action and hopes for a collaborative outcome.

Reflecting on the Kampala declaration, Minister Odongo expressed satisfaction with member states’ engagement, anticipating meaningful deliberations. He eagerly awaits the meeting’s results, emphasizing the significance of finding common ground on various issues.

“I’m happy that member states have interacted with the Kampala declaration with a lot of interest, the deliberations will be important as you seek common ground on all issues, I look forward to seeing the results of the meeting,” he asserted.

Additionally, Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, was elected as the chairperson for the senior official meeting during the 19th NAM summit heads of State.

Established in 1961, the Non-Aligned Movement, comprising 120 members, 44 of which overlap with the Commonwealth, unites developing nations to pursue common interests.
