The spokesperson of opposition political party, National Unity Platform (NUP), Joel Ssenyonyi has regarded the party’s ‘breakaway’ faction led by Nkonge Kibalama as masqueraders who should be ignored.

Kibalama and a spokesperson of his faction, Gideon Tugume unveiled what they called party’s newly created headquarters in Kabowa, Kampala to reporters.

However, in a statement, Ssenyonyi says: “We have seen reports of some people masquerading as leaders of NUP. Please treat them with the contempt they deserve.”

“Previously, the same person told court that the State had coached them to tell lies against the legitimate leadership of NUP, it is clear the state continues to use then in a hope that they will undermine the leadership of NUP and throw the party into disarray,” he adds.

He notes that the attempts are futile and that they will in no way derail them.

Kibalama and group accuses NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine and his leadership of lack of transparency in the people power movement leadership, failure to provide accountability by its leaders and failing to respect and follow the party’s constitution.

The faction also accuse people power movement of failing to contain discipline within the party, exhibiting of dictatorial management of the NUP affairs, failing to open up structures and suffocating the party organs.

“As NUP, we needed to facilitate and nature internal democracy within the party,” Tugume said.

He added that People power movement closed all avenues of creating good working relationships with other political players in the opposition fraternity and suffocating of avenues of dialogue in the political space of the country.

“The new administrative leadership of the party as a result off the 27th May 2022 delegates conference is now mandated and charged with the day to day running of the party activities both here and outside the country,” Tugume said.

But Ssenyonyi notes that Kibalama and group deserve no attention since they are pushing selfish and unjustifiably causes.

“We call upon the public to treat these masqueraders with the contempt they deserve. We also sent a stern warning to these masqueraders, the full wrath of the law will be unleashed on them over their fraudulent tendencies,” notes Ssenyonyi.

The party deputy spokesperson, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, while appearing on Baba Television, regarded activities of the Kibalama led group as hogwash.

“Why have you invited me here as the party spokesperson, not them? That is hogwash. Wacha wewe. Let Kibalama rest,” Waiswa asked the host Adam Kungu who had asked him to comment on the said new party leadership.

Meanwhile, on Thursday Tugume said NUP is already working up to speed to field candidates in all the by-elections and women elections at all levels in all areas as declared by the electoral commission and “very optimistic to win all areas”.

“The head office is now officially open for all elected members of NUP at all levels inclufing the meme of parliament to come and formalize their memeerb to get the blessings of the real Bishops of NUP.”

“NUP therefore issues a strong warning ro whoisever id foung using party colours, symbols, stamps and any other party materials without permission form the party leadesgipo, as suc g will attratdv very punitively,” he warned.

Tugume consequently asked all authorities in the country to disregard Kamwokya as National Unity Platform head office.
