Senior Presidential Advisor on Defence and Security, Lt. Gen. Proscovia Nalweyiso, has called on opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, to concentrate on advancing his political cause from within Uganda rather than seeking international attention.
Speaking Sanyuka TV on Monday morning, Gen. Nalweyiso described Kyagulanyi as “my son” and urged him to remain rooted among his supporters if he is to effectively champion their concerns.
“My son Bobi Wine should lead the country from here. Let him not run to America to report; instead, let him remain and lead from here while raising those issues,” she stated.
Her remarks come at a time when Bobi Wine, leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has been engaging international partners, especially in the United States, on matters of democracy and human rights in Uganda.
Gen. Nalweyiso emphasized that true leadership requires courage to face challenges at home, noting that history has shown that change is only achieved when leaders remain with their people.
The retired general’s comments have sparked debate among political observers, with some interpreting them as a gesture of respect toward Kyagulanyi’s growing influence, while others view them as a subtle reminder of the ruling establishment’s expectations.
