The National Drug Authority (NDA) has conducted a successful enforcement operation, closing down a total of 180 illegal drug outlets across six districts in Western Uganda. The operation, spanning five days, targeted establishments operating without proper licenses and staffed by unqualified personnel.

In districts including Kyankwanzi, Hoima city, Kyenjojo, Masindi, Kikuube, and Kiryandongo, the NDA seized 416 boxes of assorted medicines valued at over 100 million UGX. This action aligns with the NDA’s mission to safeguard public health by regulating human and animal medicines, as well as healthcare products.

The NDA urges owners of impounded drugs to visit their regional office for guidance on compliance procedures to retrieve their stock. Additionally, the authority warns all operators lacking proper licenses or employing unqualified staff to cease operations until they meet regulatory requirements.

Abiaz Rwamiri, the authority’s spokesperson, emphasizes the importance of purchasing medications only from licensed pharmacies and drug shops, urging the public to remain vigilant.
