Eng Patrick Oboi Amuriat has been re-elected as the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party President. This was during the National Delegates Conference at Patidar Samaj sports grounds in Lugogo, Kampala on Friday.

According to the party’s Chief Electoral Commissioner Boniface Bamwenda, Amuriat was elected by 800 delegates against 187 who voted for his only contender Moses Byamugisha. 

Others elected were Geofrey Ekanya who got 626 votes against Judith Franca Akello’s 355 votes to become the treasurer general. Daka Ajuna was elected Secretary for Mobilization and Organization after beating Ibrahim Kasozi with 623 votes against 354. Some of Kasozi’s supporters attempted to dispute the results, interrupting Bamwenda as he made the declarations. 

The session paused for at least five minutes and a few supporters exchanged blows while Toterebuka was whisked away to safety. Daka who was under the guard of his supporters later took to the stage when the chief commissioner returned, and he was declared the winner of the election.

The delegates also elected Richard Muyombya as deputy Information and Publicity Secretary having scored 501 votes against 449 votes by Muhammad Mbentyo. Joel Okal was voted Secretary for Trade, Industry, Economy, and Investment by 569 delegates while Paddy Tenywa was elected by 204 voters.

Victoria Nambuya won the position of Secretary for Agriculture with 701 votes while her opponent Rashid Jumbe got 321 votes. John Mugabi collected 567 votes to win the position of Secretary for Research and Policy while his opponent James Kalifa got 397 votes. 

Robinah Atim defeated Abraham Luwemba with 564 votes against 407 to become the Secretary for Culture and Religious Affairs while Gloria Pada was elected Deputy secretary of Administration with 357 votes against his closest contender Walid Lubega who got 356 votes and 284 votes by James Ape.

Moses Owol won the position of Secretary for Local Government with 552 votes against 220 votes garnered by Ben Martin Wanda and 193 votes by Joseph Senzoga. Susan Otai got 445 votes against Patrick Musinguzi’s 281 votes to become the next FDC Secretary for International and Regional Affairs. Ziyada Ahumuza was elected Secretary for Transport with 505 votes.

According to Toterebuka, the total number of positions in NEC is 58 and these attracted 79 contestants. However, 38 of the candidates were unopposed leaving only 41 candidates and hence 20 positions to take to the ballot.

Those who went through unopposed include the Secretary-General, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, Yusuf Nsibambi as Deputy President in charge of Buganda, Kaps Fungaroo as Deputy President in charge of Northern Uganda, Margrate Madanda for Deputy President in charge of Eastern Uganda and Hamis Musoke Walusimbi as Secretary for Presidency.

Others are; Jack Sabiiti as National Chairman and Centenary Franco Robert, Kibuuka Mukalazi and Jamal Wante as Vice Chairpersons, Wilberforce Kyambadde for deputy treasurer general budgeting, and Moses Attan for deputy treasurer fundraising.

Also, deputy Secretary Generals for organization and mobilization, Eunice Namatende for East, Olive Nassuuna for Buganda, Odesmus Byaruhanga for West and Brian Atim Ogutu for North and Bitek as Secretary for Legal, Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs. 

John Kikonyogowho has been serving as the party deputy spokesperson had been declared unopposed in the position of Secretary for Information and Publicity, yet he had an opponent Idi Ouma. When the electoral commission was informed of the mistake, it differed the election for that position since they had not printed election materials for it.

Also, the total number of delegates was 1143, of whom 447 came from the Eastern region, 235 from Buganda, 221 from the Northern, 172 from Western, 40 National Executive Committee-NEC members, and 28 FDC Members of Parliament. The elected NEC shall serve for a term of five years expiring in October 2028.
