Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson, has announced the arrest of Muwanguzi Isaac on suspicion of involvement in motor vehicle theft.

Isaac was apprehended on Monday in Kabowa, Rubaga division, following extensive surveillance and tracking efforts by law enforcement agencies.

“Based on our investigations, Isaac is believed to have primarily operated in Kabowa, Makindye, and Salama, targeting residential properties to steal number plates and occasionally other vehicle parts,” Owoyesigyire disclosed.

The 21-year-old’s modus operandi reportedly includes leaving his contact information behind, leading victims to contact him for the return of their stolen number plates.

According to the recently released Annual Crime Report, there were a total of 1,011 cases of motor vehicle theft, with Katwe police division alone registering 70 cases.

The Kabowa Police department has advised individuals who may have lost their number plates to verify with the station before taking further action.

Owoyesigyire emphasized that Isaac will be presented before the courts pending the completion of investigations, and reiterated that efforts are underway to apprehend any accomplices linked to Isaac’s criminal activities.
