President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised Hon. Dr. Lillian Aber, the newly appointed Minister of State for Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees, for demonstrating that early disadvantages do not define one’s future.

Hon. Aber, also representing Kitgum District in Parliament, hails from a humble background and encountered significant obstacles, particularly in accessing education. Despite nearly abandoning her pursuits, she persevered with the assistance of a benevolent individual who covered her educational expenses.

“Congratulations to my granddaughter Lillian Aber for proving that being disadvantaged at birth is not a disability. While our children should not rely on chance as Aber did, her resilience is commendable,” remarked President Museveni during the homecoming and thanksgiving ceremony at Kitgum Institute playground on Saturday.

President Museveni emphasized the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) commitment to offering equal opportunities to all citizens, irrespective of their backgrounds. He underscored various programs and affirmative actions aimed at ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities.

Encouraging hard work and faith in God, President Museveni highlighted initiatives like the Parish Development Model and Emyooga designed to foster wealth creation, particularly in rural areas. He urged leaders to prioritize assisting Ugandans in building sustainable livelihoods.

Addressing challenges such as education accessibility and wildlife-human conflicts, President Museveni affirmed his dedication to addressing these issues effectively. He called for collaboration between government officials and MPs to enhance the reach and impact of poverty alleviation and skills development programs.

Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, the NRM Secretary-General, commended President Museveni for fostering peace and prosperity in Northern Uganda and nurturing young leaders like Aber. Minister of Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees, Eng. Hilary Onek, expressed gratitude for the President’s support and pledged to mentor Aber.

In her remarks, Hon. Aber thanked President Museveni for the opportunity to serve and pledged to advance his vision of a prosperous Uganda. She also acknowledged the support received throughout her journey.

Other dignitaries, including Hon. Henry Okello Oryem and local leaders, echoed their appreciation for Aber’s appointment and pledged support for her endeavors.

The event, attended by various government officials, cultural leaders, and community members, celebrated Aber’s achievements and highlighted the collective commitment to national development.
