For decades, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, revered as the father of the nation for his visionary leadership, has tirelessly championed prosperity for all Ugandans.

President Museveni’s relentless advocacy for wealth creation has spurred socio-economic progress across Uganda, inspiring active participation in economic endeavors rather than passive observation.

Reflecting on his visit to Kisozi, Gomba in the 1990s, President Museveni witnessed the dire need for upliftment among residents trapped in poverty. Recounting the scene during a recent gathering with Gomba and Sembabule district leaders at his Kisozi farm, he highlighted the prevalent dependency on external assistance and vowed to catalyze change.

In 2011, President Museveni launched a comprehensive aid program, providing cows, goats, coffee seedlings, pigs, banana tissues, poultry, and financial assistance to households in nine villages across Gomba and Sembabule. Villages such as Kirasi, Kisozi A, Kisozi B, Kajumiro, Obutugu, Lutunku A, Lutunku B, Kasozi, and Kikuumadungu were among the beneficiaries.

The impact of President Museveni’s initiative is evident, with over 2,000 households experiencing transformative changes. Dairy cows, goats, pigs, and coffee seedlings have empowered families to diversify their income streams and enhance their livelihoods.

According to Poverty Alleviation Project Coordinator, Ms. Sarah Nalwanga, the initiative has catalyzed substantial progress, enabling individuals to expand their agricultural enterprises and achieve financial independence.

Mr. George Lubatutura, a beneficiary from Kajumiro village, expressed gratitude for the project, emphasizing how it propelled him from poverty to prosperity. With banana and coffee plantations and a thriving dairy farm, Mr. Lubatutura’s success story epitomizes the transformative potential of President Museveni’s support.

Another beneficiary, Ssalongo Fred Lugobe, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the newfound financial stability afforded by President Museveni’s assistance. Through dairy farming and coffee cultivation, Lugobe has not only improved his family’s well-being but also contributed to the local economy.

As beneficiaries thrive, there’s a growing call for additional support, such as the establishment of a coffee processing facility, to further enhance value addition and amplify the benefits of agricultural production in the region.
