Two people have been electrocuted in Jinja district.   The deceased include; Adam Nsimbi aged 45 years and 50 year old Peter Bireza, all residents of Bugumi village, in Namagera town council.

They were allegedly struck dead by loose electricity wires in the area.

Susan Mbakire, a resident,  says that, despite extension of electric poles near their homes,  the community has opted for illegal underground power connections.

Mbakire says that, they register related accidents in the area, with some of them fatal.

Mbakire adds that since most of the residents with illegal power connections are protected  by politicians, more lives might be lost.

Patrick Mubi, the Regional Police Spokesperson said that the police have collaborated with UMEME to end illegal power connections, however, their efforts are often frustrated by politicians.

Mubi further says that, vigilante teams have been dispatched to identify residents with underground power connections, as a means of containing the vice.
