Voting is underway in Gulu City’s residual elections for directly elected Women Councilors, taking place at six polling stations in Obiya-Laroo and Pageya-Laroo, all within Laroo-Pece Division. Three candidates are vying for the position: Kevin Alaroker of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), Independent candidate Gladys Laker, and Gladys Lakop of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
At the polling stations visited by a Uganda Radio Network reporter, voting began between 7:30 and 8:00 AM. At Obiya Wii-Got North, which has 229 registered voters, polling started by 8:00 AM. Immaculate, a polling assistant who only gave her first name, said the process was running smoothly.
“Our polling here opened very successfully. There is no problem; all the witnesses arrived on time, and the Biometric Voter Verification Kit is working very well,” she said. At Obiya Wii-Got South (KP-Z), polling also began at 8:00 AM, with the BVVK functioning normally, according to the polling officials.
Milton Okwera, Gulu City Division Supervisor at the Electoral Commission of Uganda, confirmed that materials were delivered on time to all six polling stations. He added that in some stations, voters arrived slightly later than expected, delaying the official start of voting until 8:00 AM due to the absence of witnesses.
