Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Tom Magambo, Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has urged officers to stay vigilant against election disruptors as the country readies for next year’s general elections.

He made the call while addressing Regional, District, and Divisional CID officers at the CID Headquarters in Kibuli, on Tuesday, emphasizing the critical role CID will play in securing Uganda during the election cycle.

The officers, fresh from a one-month skills enhancement course at the Police Skills Enhancement Centre in Kikandwa, Wakiso, were rallied to intensify operations and demonstrate their readiness to safeguard the country.

AIGP Magambo underscored the importance of the next 12 months, describing it as a defining period for the CID.

“Everything we’ve trained for will be put to the test,” he said. “This is the moment to show the country that CID delivers.”

The Director urged officers to take ownership of their responsibilities, emphasizing vigilance and proactive problem-solving.

“This is your country, you are the change it desperately needs,” Magambo stated. “Find solutions to your challenges, change your environment, and protect yourselves from falling into traps by acting smart and staying alert.”

With the election period approaching, Magambo highlighted the threat posed by individuals intent on disrupting the democratic process.

“There are individuals who want to disrupt our elections. It is your responsibility to ensure they are dealt with legally and held accountable,” he told the officers.

He stressed that the CID must prove its effectiveness, asserting, “This is the time to prove to the country that we have a CID that works.”

The meeting comes at a pivotal moment as Uganda prepares for a potentially charged election season.

The skills enhancement training, designed to sharpen investigative and operational capabilities, is expected to equip officers to handle emerging challenges effectively.

The CID’s focus on readiness and accountability signals a robust approach to maintaining law and order during this critical period.
