Namisindwa District has today handed over motorcycles to the officers in-charge of different health centers. The motorcycles were dispatched to the district by the Ministry of Health under the immunization program to help health workers carry out immunization and other services.
The number of motocycles for Namisindwa is still indeterminate as they have not yet gone round to all the potential recipients and more are yet tobe delivered. Emma Bwayo, the LCV Chairperson of Namisindwa District, said during the handover that the motorcycles will be used as a means of transport for health workers at the respective health centers.
The Health Centre IIIs that received motorcycles are Bukhabusi Health Centre III in Bukhabusi Sub-county, Buwabwala Health Centre III in Buwabwala Sub-county, and Bumbo Health Centre III in Bumbo Town Council.One motorcycle was also given to the District Health Educator.
In his remarks, Bwayo said that because Namisindwa District has hilly terrain, the motorcycles will help staff access mountainous areas to deliver services to the people. The LCV Chairperson added that they have lobbied the Ministry of Health to upgrade Health Centre IIs to III, and Bumbo Health Centre III to a Health Centre IV, to improve health service delivery in Namisindwa.
He said that health centers that have not yet received motorcycles should remain calm as the district is lobbying for more to be provided to them. Stephen Masai, the Namisindwa District Acting Health Officer, said they targeted health centers in hard-to-reach areas because accessibility has been a challenge.
Elijah Madoi, the Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner, cautioned the beneficiaries to use the motorcycles responsibly and not to abuse them, adding that anyone found misusing them will be named and shamed. URN
