The Uganda U20 women’s national team has progressed to the fourth round of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers following their barren draw with South Africa in the return leg of the third round at Dobsonsville Stadium on Friday.
Uganda had won the first leg 1-0 at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on December 3 thanks to Hadijah Nandago’s only goal.
Today’s 0-0 stalemate in South Africa propels Coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi’s girls into the fourth round with 1-0 win on aggregate.
Coach Kiyingi was full praise of his charges, indicating they played according to script and hopes that the World Cup will be realized.
”I’m so happy that we have managed to eliminate South Africa. I thank my players for the commitment showed today and making sure we pick a good result. We only hope to keep the same attitude at the next round and achieve our ultimate target of qualifying to the World Cup,” he said.
The Ugandans will now face either either Ghana or Zambia in the next round of qualifiers.
