Police in Kakumiro District have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a 28-year-old businesswoman who was attacked and killed during a suspected robbery in the early hours of Monday.

The suspects, whose identities have been withheld to protect ongoing investigations, are being detained at Kakumiro Central Police Station.

The deceased has been identified as Juliet Mbabazi, a businesswoman and resident of East Cell in Kakumiro Town Council.

According to preliminary police investigations, Mbabazi had stepped out of her business premises to answer nature’s call when she was allegedly attacked by two men armed with machetes who emerged from a nearby bush. Police say the assailants repeatedly cut her in the neck, killing her instantly.

The attackers reportedly fled with an unspecified amount of money taken from the victim. Kakumiro District Police Commander David Otabong said a team of Flying Squad detectives was deployed immediately after the incident, leading to the arrest of the two suspects.Otabong said investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing and identify other people who may have been involved.

He said police believe more suspects could have participated in planning or carrying out the attack and appealed to members of the public with relevant information to come forward to aid the investigation. URN
